Suara.com – Chairman of the Indonesian Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) Rahmat Bagja admitted that he was devastated because one of the Medan City Bawaslu commissioners was caught in a sting operation (OTT) by the North Sumatra Regional Police in a case of alleged extortion of legislative candidates.
Bagja conveyed this in front of his staff who attended the Bawaslu national coordination meeting (rakornas) Thursday (23/11/2023) evening.
“I know my friends were hit by Bawaslu yesterday in Medan City. I was even more hit. We (the RI Bawaslu commissioners) were even more hit,” said Bagja in Taman Sari, West Newsdelivers.com.
According to Bagja, this incident was a hard slap for Bawaslu.
Bagja then asked all Bawaslu officials from the central, provincial, to district/city levels not to commit extortion or other criminal acts.
“Don’t let the Medan City Bawaslu incident happen to all your friends. I warn all my friends not to make things strange,” said Bagja.
Previously, the North Sumatra Regional Police carried out an OTT against the Medan City Bawaslu commissioner with the initials AH (32) at a hotel in Medan City, Tuesday (14/11/2023) evening.
Apart from AH, two residents with the initials FH (29) and IG (25) were also caught in the operation. The three were arrested while handing over money which was suspected to be part of an act of extortion against a legislative candidate for the Medan City DPRD.
Recently, Bawaslu RI has deactivated AH from the position of commissioner of Bawaslu for Medan City. This is because the dismissal will only be carried out if AH has been declared guilty by a court decision that has permanent legal force.
