Suara.com – The Philippine National Team made history for the first time since 2014 by being able to score first against the Indonesian National Team. This happened in the 2026 World Cup Qualifications in the Asian zone, Tuesday (21/11/2023).
The Philippines vs Indonesia national team duel was presented on the second matchday of Group F of the second round of the 2026 World Cup Qualifications in the Asian zone.
In the match at the Rizal Memorial Stadium, Manila, the Philippines as the host managed to score first after 24 minutes of the match.
Patrick Reichelt surprised all the Garuda players with his goal which came after taking advantage of a mistake in the Indonesian national team’s back line, especially Jordi Amat.
Jordi Amat lost the ball in his own defense so the Philippines quickly counterattacked. Reichelt managed to control the ball to stab into the penalty box before beating Ernando Ari with a left-footed shot that slid slowly into the bottom right side of the Indonesian goal.

Looking at the 11v11 page, this is the first time the Philippines has scored a goal before the Indonesian national team since November 25 2014 when they won 4-0 over Garuda in the AFF Cup.
After that match, the Philippines recorded two draws against Indonesia (2-2, 0-0) before losing 1-2. In those three matches, The Azkals never once took the lead over the Red and White team.
The Philippines indeed performed well on the second matchday of Group F of the 2026 World Cup Qualifications in the Asian zone. In front of their own supporters, Michael Weiss’ team appeared so dominant.
In fact, in the 25 minutes of running time, they didn’t give the Indonesian National Team even a chance to create a chance. This is in contrast to their statistics which managed to shoot seven shots in the same period.
The Philippines and Indonesia each played this match with negative capital thanks to defeats on the first matchday of Group F on November 16.
The Indonesian national team lost to Iraq on the first matchday of Group F with a score of 1-5 at the Basra International Stadium, Thursday (16/11/2023). Meanwhile, the Philippines were silenced by Vietnam 0-2 on the same day.
