KUMAMOTO – Indonesian women’s singles badminton athlete, Gregoria Mariska Tunjung, succeeded in becoming champion at the Kumamoto Japan Masters 2023. She also has the secret to becoming champion at the BWF Super 500 level tournament.
Gregoria crushed the third seed from China, Chen Yu Fei with a score of 21-12, 21-12 in the final match of the Japan Masters 2023 which took place at the Kumamoto Prefectural Gymnasium, Sunday (19/11/2023).
After the match, Gregoria admitted that the title was very meaningful because it was his first title at the Super 500 level. He also thanked the people who had provided support.
“I’m very happy because I won my first title at the super 500 level. I can’t express it in words. This title feels very meaningful because it is thanks to the people who continue to support me,” said Gregoria Mariska Tunjung in a PBSI statement, Sunday (19 /11/2023).
Gregoria also admitted that playing calmly is the key to becoming Masters Japan 2023 champion. Apart from that, he also knows how Chen Yu Fei plays, so he can win.
“The key to me being able to win was because my performance today on the field was quite calm. I really know that I have to work hard to face Chen Yu Fei. So I am very ready,” he said.
Meanwhile, the 2023 Japan Masters title made Gregoria make history. The reason is, she became the first female badminton player in the country to be able to win the Super 500 title.
