KUMAMOTO – Jonatan Christie started the Kumamoto Masters Japan 2023 tournament with satisfactory results. Facing Chi Yu Jen, Indonesian men’s singles only needed 32 minutes to eliminate Taiwan’s representatives in two straight games 21-14, 21-19 at Kumamoto Perfectural Gymnasium, Wednesday (15/11/2023).
This is Jonathan’s second victory against Chi Yu. Previously, the world number 4 badminton player had defeated Taiwan’s representative in a fierce rubber game 16-21, 21-18, 21-16 at the 2023 Malaysia Masters.
Thus, Jonathan successfully improved his meeting record against Chi Yu to 2-0. Next, he will wait for the winner in the first round, Su Li Yang versus Jeon Hyeok Jin.
Jonatan is the first Indonesian representative from the men’s singles sector to qualify for the second round of the Kumamoto Masters Japan 2023. The Red and White Team has the opportunity to add representatives if Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo and Anthony Sinisuka Ginting are able to beat their opponents.
Today, only two Indonesian representatives have confirmed that they will qualify for the next round. They are Jonatan Christie and Rinov Rivaldy/Pitha Haningtyas Mentari.
