Ryeoun revealed how she struggled to learn sign language for her role as Ha Eun Gyeon in the drama Twinkling Watermelon.
He expressed this in an interview after the last episode of Twinkling Watermelon was broadcast on Tuesday (14/11).
Ryeoun revealed that Ha Eun Gyeon was the only person in his family who could hear.
Meanwhile, his father, mother and older brother are deaf. Therefore, Ha Eun Gyeon has learned sign language since childhood so she can communicate with her family.
Based on the character’s background, Ryeoun also had to desperately learn sign language so that when acting he could be flexible in signing.
“He (Eun Gyeon) has learned sign language since he was little. So he has to look clever and not awkward when he does it,” said the actor who was born on August 26 1998.
“I made a lot of effort to learn sign language. I practiced as much as possible when I was alone at home, during activities, and even before sleeping. Luckily, the script came out first and I already had a scene set, so I could practice intensively,” he continued .
Apart from learning sign language, Ryeoun had to learn to play the guitar. Once again, Ha Eun Gyeon’s character is described as a man who is skilled at plucking guitar strings.
“It’s very difficult to do everything yourself. Eun Gyeol is known as a guitar genius, so he can’t play it carelessly,” explained Ryeoun.
“So the chord position had to be set to the bottom and I had to do a lot of research about good playing form. I also chatted with the guitar teacher and found out about that part,” he continued.
