BANDUNG – The second matchday match in Group D of the 2023 U-17 World Cup between Senegal and Poland had to be postponed. This was the result of rain and lightning that struck the Si Jalak Harupat Stadium area, Bandung Regency, Tuesday (14/11/2023) afternoon WIB.
At the start of the match, the weather around the stadium looked very sunny. However, when the match was underway in the middle of the first half, the weather changed drastically to dark.
Even though it wasn’t raining yet, the lightning struck very hard accompanied by strong winds. As a result, match officials decided to postpone the match in the 39th minute.
“This is an important safety announcement due to lightning around the stadium, the match has been stopped and will restart as soon as possible,” read an announcement at the stadium.
“This is done for the safety of the players, match officials and spectators,” the announcement continued.
When it was stopped, Senegal was leading 2-0 over Poland. The match was stopped indefinitely.
This is also the second time the match has been stopped in the middle of the match at the Si Jalak Harupat Stadium in Bandung. Previously, delays occurred on the first matchday of Group D, which brought together Japan and Poland.
