A total of 40 racers from more than 18 countries will enliven the international jetski racing event entitled Aquabike Jetski World Championship on Lake Toba on 22-26 November 2023. These participants consist of 30 international racers and 10 Indonesian racers.
This event is the second world water racing championship to be held on Lake Toba, after the F1Powerboat World Championship which was held last February. For five days, the 2023 Aquabike Jetski World Championship will be divided into two categories, namely endurance world championship (endurance) and circuit world championship.
The endurance category was held on the first to third days at locations in Karo, Dairi and Samosir Regencies. This category will be held on a three-kilometer closed circuit with a maximum time limit of one hour. Meanwhile, the circuit category will be held on the fourth and fifth days in Balige, Toba.
Through this event, it is believed that it can move the wheels of the regional economy, as well as become a forum for MSME players to develop their business wings to become bigger. “After being held in 40 countries, now is the time for the world to see the culture and uniqueness of Toba through holding the Aquabike Jetski World Championship 2023. The presence of this event provides invaluable promotional support to the Indonesian economy, especially for the community around the Lake Toba area,” said the Minister of Tourism and Economy. Creative, Sandiaga Uno, in his press statement.
“Moreover, this event will take place in Indonesia every year until 2027, where through this event it is targeted to achieve 60-70 percent greater profits than F1Powerboat,” continued Sandiaga Uno.
Meanwhile, Menpora Dito Ariotedjo welcomed the international event taking place at Lake Toba positively. He said that referring to the National Sports Grand Design (DBON), this activity is an effort to revive sport tourism and sport entertainment which are important instruments in improving the community’s economy.
“Hopefully Indonesia can have its own team to take part in the Aquabike Jetski World Championship in full. Because Indonesia has a contract as host for the next five years or until 2027 which must be used to develop the potential of national racers. So the opportunity is very big, so the government “continue to encourage and take part and collaborate or cooperate with various sectors both at home and abroad. We are sure that this event will repeat the success of F1 Powerboat,” said Dito.
There are several series of events at the 2023 Aquabike Jetski World Championship. One of the interesting things was at the opening of the event in Samosir Regency, namely the Dragon Boat competition.
This competition is divided into an inter-district competition which is participated by 8 districts and a celebrity competition. Apart from that, this world-class event at Lake Toba will also be followed by a series of other interesting side events. Four districts and also the North Sumatra Provincial government are actively involved in organizing side events consisting of cultural festivals and MSME festivals.
“We involve various levels of society to be able to display various kinds of local cultural diversity and customs in the form of performances. This side event is expected to provide a cultural experience that visitors can interact with. Meanwhile, local MSMEs are also involved to encourage the local economy while introducing it to the international community so that it can make them move up in class,” explained the Acting Governor of North Sumatra, Hasanudin.
