JAKARTA – The United States donated a number of combat vehicles to Ukraine to penetrate Russian defenses. These weapons of war include the US military’s flagship Assault Breacher.
The specifications are a minesweeper and anti-tank obstacle vehicle weighing 55 tonnes equipped with an armored hull like the M-1 tank. The Assault Breacher is also equipped with a British-made bulldozer blade, as well as a launcher for detonating mines.
According to Forbes, the combat vehicle operated by the two crew is estimated to be worth 4 million US dollars or IDR 62 billion. However, its capabilities are worth the price. This unit can dig and detonate mines buried in the ground, close trenches for passage, and dig trenches for troops to shelter. Then, it can also sterilize the path for tanks and other combat vehicles in enemy territory.
The Assault Breacher or ABV is proven to be one of the best and most versatile destructive vehicles. These combat vehicles can do the same work that might require four, five, or six mine clearing units, bulldozers, and excavators.
“Commanders in the field say the Assault Breacher provides better protection than any equipment they’ve ever used and it also reduces the number of vehicles at the point of penetration,” said Randall Flack, director of Pearson, the company that produces the Assault Breacher.
Jonathan Murray, an Assault Breacher mechanic, said the vehicle can clear minefields 10 times faster than personnel out in the field.
Although Ukrainian troops succeeded in breaking through the outermost Russian defense line in Zaporizhzhia Oblast, there are still other secondary and tertiary defense lines in the Ukrainian territory occupied by Russia. And in other sectors of the 600-mile-long front, Ukrainian troops still had to break through defensive lines of mines, trenches and anti-tank obstacles.
