The Russian army announced that Ukraine had attacked a shipyard in Crimea with missiles, and as a result a Russian ship had been damaged.
The Russian Ministry of Defense announced late Saturday evening that Ukrainian forces had fired 15 missiles at the Zaliv shipyard in Kerch and that air defense systems had shot down only 13 of them.
Moscow did not provide details on the ship or the extent of the damage to the shipyard.
In a statement from the commander of the Ukrainian air force Mykola Oleshchuk, it was said that at the time of the attack, carried out by Ukrainian tactical aviation, there was “one of the most modern ships of the Russian fleet in the Black Sea” in the shipyard. However, he did not give details about whether this particular ship was damaged.
The Crimean peninsula, which Russia illegally annexed in 2014, has been a frequent target of attacks since Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered a Ukraine-wide attack 20 months ago. Crimea is serving as a major hub supporting Russian aggression.
In recent months, Ukraine has increasingly struck naval targets on the Crimean peninsula. In September, a Ukrainian missile attack on a strategic shipyard in the port city of Sevastopol damaged two Russian ships and injured 24 people. Later, in the same month, the central headquarters of the Russian Navy in Sevastopol was hit.
