JAKARTA – The coach of the Brazil U-17 National Team, Phelipe Leal, stated that there is no problem with Welber Halim Jardim defending the Indonesian U-17 National Team. Because, he believes that there will be more Brazilian players at the world football event.
The player has Brazilian blood from his father Elisangelo Jardim de Jesus, while his mother Lielyana Halim is from Banjarmasin. Welber was born in Indonesia, but grew up in Brazil.
Phelipe Leal welcomed Welber’s enthusiasm in being able to defend the U-17 Indonesian National Team. Because of this, he considered the event to be quite good for developing the careers of young players.
“It is an extraordinary honor for us, Brazil, because there is a player who was born in Brazil but has Indonesian blood who will also fight for his career. He will play in the uniform of the Indonesian national team,” said Phelipe Leal at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Saturday ( 4/11/2023).
The 36-year-old coach said he fully supports Welber in the event which will take place from November 10 to December 2 2023. He hopes that the player can perform optimally with the Garuda Asia Squad – the nickname for the Indonesian U-17 National Team.
“We will congratulate him and wish him success with the Indonesian National Team,” he said.
As is known, the Samba Team – the nickname for the Brazil U-17 National Team, is in Group C along with England, Iran and New Caledonia. The Group C match will be played at the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS).
