Slamet’s smile looked cheerful and shy when he welcomed the arrival of the merdekabaik.id team at their rented house in Cilandak, South Newsdelivers.com. In fact, the seven year old child immediately hid behind the back of his mother, Ratna. Behind Slamet’s cheerfulness, there are so many health problems that Slamet is experiencing. Since birth, doctors stated that he suffered from cerebral palsy and was born with a leaky heart. Ratna couldn’t bear it if Slamet had to have surgery right then and there. He decided to postpone Slamet’s heart surgery in the hope that over time Slamet’s heart would be healthy again.
“So cerebral palsy was born from birth because he was born with problems. Then he was diagnosed with a leaky heart, but I didn’t want to have surgery straight away when he was still small, I was still afraid. And I still hoped that as he got older he could close it, but apparently it couldn’t,” said Ratna. to the merdekabaik.id team.

Fate brought him to a much more severe condition. When Slamet turned one year old, his father returned to God’s bosom. Triggered by a heart attack, her late husband left Ratna with Slamet. Ratna despaired and chose to return to her hometown in Indramayu. Slamet often experiences fevers and seizures. Until one day, Slamet collapsed until he was unconscious. Ratna immediately took the child to the community health center and then referred him to Hasan Sadikin Hospital, Bandung. When he arrived there, the hospital informed him that Slamet needed to use a ventilator, which at that time was not available. Assisted by nurses and getting ambulance assistance, Slamet and Ratna returned to Newsdelivers.com for treatment.

“Back to the village, he (Slamet) collapsed. He had a seizure, maybe because of a leak in his heart, he had a fever of up to 42 (temperature). He was helped at the Indramayu Community Health Center but I still took him to Hasan Sadikin Bandung. Actually, there he was told to go to the emergency room, right? “But because there weren’t any ventilators, right? Then someone just took them to Fatmawati. Thank God, the ambulance with the medical team and the nurses helped,” said Ratna to the jasabaik.id team. Slamet was in a coma for 17 days until he finally regained consciousness. Ratna had given up hope when they returned to Newsdelivers.com. Ratna was very lucky to be helped by doctors at Fatmawati General Hospital to stay in a shelter specifically for patients coming from outside Newsdelivers.com.
Several months later Ratna finally took a contract at Fatmawati General Hospital. He brought his biological mother to live with him. Ratna works as a laundry worker in a boarding house near where she lives. He works on days when Slamet’s schedule for physiotherapy is free. Ratna is paid Rp. 50,000 per day, in a week she will wash for three days so that Ratna earns Rp. 150,000 per week. The money is allocated to buy diapers, milk, cereal and daily necessities for his house. There were good people who helped Ratna by providing capital to open a shop in her rented house. Currently Ratna expressed her desire to buy Slamet a nebulizer but there are not sufficient funds yet. Ratna also shared her feelings about the journey of caring for Slamet, who could be said to have special needs.
“Taking care of a child with cerebral palsy, yes, a special child is a challenge to be more patient, yes, more so than usual. I too, with a single parent like that, have to be more patient by earning a living. I hope Slamet can stay healthy, amen yes. “You can go to school like that. So you can be a pious child, that’s how it is, Sis,” said Ratna holding back tears.
