SPOKANE – Alwi Farhan admitted that he was grateful to be able to secure a ticket to the final of the 2023 BWF World Junior Championships (WJC). This Indonesian men’s singles admitted that he did not expect to be in the top match.
Alwi reached the final after beating Ayush Shetty, in two straight games, 21-18, 21-15 at The Podium Arena, Sunday (8/10/2023). This victory also paid off the defeat Alwi experienced against the Indian representative.
In the first meeting in the semifinals of Denmark Junior 2021, Alwi was defeated by Ayush in three games, 21-16, 17-21, 21-23. Even so, Alwi admitted that he did not want to be complacent. The reason is, there is one final match that he must go through.
“Thank God, I was able to win. Actually, I didn’t think I would be able to advance to the final. However, I can’t be satisfied because tomorrow there is still a final match to be won,” said Alwi, Sunday (8/10/2023).
“Indeed, in the previous meeting it was tight. But now from the start I have prepared a pattern to face the opponent. It turns out the opponent’s playing pattern is as I predicted. The opponent also plays with a pattern like what I prepared from the start. So you could say it went smoothly,” added Alwi .
In the final, Alwi faced Hu Zhe An. The third seeded player from China in the semifinals displaced the first seed from France, Alex Lanier, 22-20, 22-20.
Apart from Alwi, there is another Indonesian representative who has the opportunity to become champion at the BWF WJC 2023 event. She is Chiara Marvella Handoyo who will face Pitchamon Opatniputh (Thailand) in the final round.
