LONDON – Female boxer Caroline Dubois managed to win the IBO lightweight championship belt by defeating Magali Rodriguez last weekend. Even so, this 22 year old fighter is immediately aiming for big fights with elite names.
Dubois, who has only had 8 professional fights since his debut in February 2022, wants undisputed lightweight world champion Katie Taylor to undisputed junior welterweight champion Chantelle Cameron.
“As soon as they are available to me, I will go ahead and take them and I will be the ‘new one,” said Dubois (8-0, 5KO), as quoted by Sky Sports.
Regarding Dubois’ wishes, four-division women’s boxing world champion, Natasha Jonas, said that she really recognizes Dubois’ abilities. According to him, Dubois is one of the most talented female boxing talents.
However, with his experience still raw, Jonas believes that Dubois doesn’t need to rush. Jonas believes that Dubois still has time to chase the world title.
“I don’t think there’s any reason to rush. I mean, we know how good he is. We know how good he can be. There’s no need to rush,” said Jonas.
“He’s had so much time to learn his craft and do what he does,” he said.
“I don’t even know who you can bet against her. Determining her opponent will also be difficult, because many people will not want to accept it. Big names will not want to step into the ring with Caroline in the near future,” explained Jonas.
Meanwhile, Boxxer promoter Ben Shalom is eager to accelerate Dubois’ career path. He said that Dubois was the next star in the world of women’s boxing.
“She is a special talent, the first of many titles, and will also be a big star in the next year. Katie Taylor is a big star, and I can see why, but Caroline is the next star in women’s boxing,” he said.
“I hope one of the governing bodies will recognize it soon,” hopes Ben Shalom.
