JAKARTA – After Jay Idzes is in the naturalization process to become an Indonesian citizen (WNI), PSSI is now also exploring players of other descent who have the potential to become naturalized. Arya Sinulingga, member of the PSSI Executive Committee (Exco), revealed the challenges in the naturalization process for this player, especially regarding the completeness of documents and Indonesian blood.
Arya admits that finding players to naturalize is not an easy task. Sometimes, desired players face problems related to incomplete documents. Even so, Arya did not specifically mention which descent player PSSI was targeting after Jay Idzes.
“There must be Indonesian blood, there are also those whose (descendant players) don’t have the documents (incomplete), a solution must be found. Who (the players who will be naturalized) just wait for the playing date,” said Arya.
Although Arya did not specify which players would be naturalized next, the name of 20 year old defender, Ryan Flamingo, was one of the topics being discussed. Currently, Ryan plays for FC Utrecht as a loan player from Sassuolo.
Jay Idzes’ naturalization process has reportedly reached the Ministry of Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia (Kemenkumham RI). It is hoped that this process will be completed soon, so that Idzes can join the Indonesian national team at the 2023 Asian Cup which will take place in Qatar.
PSSI hopes that the naturalization of players like Jay Idzes and other potential players of descent can strengthen the Indonesian national team in international competitions, such as the 2023 Asian Cup. The Indonesian national team is in Group D with Iraq, Japan and Vietnam in this event.
