HANGZHOU – The Indonesian contingent made another brilliant achievement at the 2022 Asian Games. This time, Rahmat Erwin Abdullah won a valuable gold medal in the weightlifting sport.
The 22 year old lifter from Makassar won the gold medal brilliantly. He managed to win the gold medal after showing his best performance in the men’s 73 kg event with a total lift of 359 kg. This fierce competition took place on Wednesday (3/10/2023) evening WIB at the Xiaoshan Sports Center Gymnasium, Hangzhou, China.
Rahmat’s extraordinary achievement was realized by lifting a weight weighing 158 kg in the snatch, which was followed by his success in recording a clean and jerk lift weighing 201 kg. Rahmat Erwin Abdullah’s greatness did not stop there, because this 201 kg mark also broke the clean and jerk world record that he had previously held. His previous world record was 200 kg when he appeared at the 2022 World Weightlifting Championships in Bogota, Colombia.
The silver medal in this competition was won by an athlete from Thailand, Weeraphon Wichuma, who achieved a total weight of 351 kg. Weeraphon recorded a lift of 156 kg in the snatch and 195 kg in the clean & jerk.
Meanwhile, the bronze medal was won by North Korea’s representative, Oh Kumthaek, who was able to reach a total weight of 344 kg. Oh Kumthaek contributed 151 kg in the snatch and 193 kg in the clean and jerk.
With this brilliant achievement, Rahmat Erwin Abdullah has donated the fifth gold medal for Indonesia in the 2023 Asian Games. Now, the Red-White Team has collected a total of 19 medals consisting of five gold, three silver and 11 bronze.
