SPOKANE – Alwi Farhan, Indonesian junior men’s singles player, has a special motivational message for his teammates ahead of the 2023 BWF World Junior Mixed Team Championships (WJC) final match against China. He emphasized the importance of not thinking about your own shortcomings when playing later.
Alwi realized that thinking about personal shortcomings could be an obstacle for the Indonesian Team. Therefore, he asked his colleagues to remain focused on the advantages each player has.
Alwi believes that Indonesian badminton players have equal abilities to their Chinese counterparts. According to him, one thing that needs to be improved is self-confidence.
“China certainly has good players, but we also have players who are no less good. We have to focus on the strengths we have and avoid thinking about weaknesses that could actually hinder us,” he said in an official statement from PBSI on Saturday (30/9/ 2023).
Alwi Farhan currently holds the role of team captain. He played an important role in helping Indonesia achieve victory in the semifinals against Taiwan. Alwi managed to beat Ma Cheng-Yi in two games with a score of 21-12 and 21-18.
The semifinal match took place at The Podium Arena, Spokane, Washington, United States (US), and Indonesia finally won with a landslide score of 3-0.
Alwi Farhan fell in second place in the match. Previously, Indonesia had won 1-0 thanks to the mixed doubles victory, Jonathan Farrell Gosal/Priskala Venus Elsadai.
Even though Jonathan/Priskila lost in the first game, they managed to make a comeback and beat Bao Xin Da Gu La Wai/Chung Chia En with a score of 24-26, 21-19, 21-16.
