JAKARTA – The Indonesian national team coach, Shin Tae-yong, is reportedly monitoring Sassuolo defender, Ryan Flamingo, to become a target for naturalization. If this materializes, the Red and White Team’s back line stock will increase.
This news was conveyed by South Korean media, Best Eleven. This media also reported that Shin Tae-yong will not stop hunting for pedigreed players.
“Shin Tae-yong plans to add defender, Ryan Flamingo, who plays for Sassuolo, to the (Indonesian) National Team,” wrote the Best Eleven report, Wednesday (27/9/2023).
“In the future, coach Shin also plans not to stop transfusing naturalized players,” continued the media.
For your information, Flamingo is a Sassuolo player who is currently on loan at FC Utrecht. The Indonesian National Team’s back line will be stronger if Flamingo’s naturalization is realized.
Apart from being 20 years old, Flamingo also appears regularly with FC Utrecht in the top caste of the Dutch League (Eredivisie) 2023-2024. This season, the Indonesian-Surinamese player has appeared four times in the Dutch League.
Even though they haven’t recorded a clean sheet, Flamingo has been active in attack. Evidently, from those four appearances, Flamingo scored one goal.
However, it should be noted that his natural position is center back. That means, if Flamingo becomes an Indonesian citizen, the Indonesian National Team’s central defender stock will be even more encouraging.
Recently, PSSI announced the arrival of a new naturalized defender, namely Jay Idzes. The naturalization process for the Venezia player will begin in the near future.
Apart from Idzes, there are already two center backs of other descent who play in the center back position for the Indonesian National Team, namely Jordi Amat and Elkan Baggott.
Apart from that, there are other central defenders such as Rizky Ridho who are often called up to the Garuda squad. And it doesn’t stop there, other players such as Alfeandra Dewangga and Rachmat Irianto can also be placed in the center back position.
With an abundance of options in the back line, the Indonesian National Team will be stronger and more unified in international competition. Hopefully these players can work together and bring brilliant achievements to Indonesia.
