Universities that offer Taylor Swift courses
1. New York University
Reporting from Billboard, New York University (NYU) through the Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music is offering its first interesting class on Taylor Swift. This class is taught by Rolling Stone staff writer Brittany Spanos.
In this class, students will study Swift’s journey as a creative music entrepreneur, pop songwriter and the influence of her existence on youth discourse. In 2023, NYU awarded Taylor Swift an honorary doctorate after graduating from the campus.
2. University of Texas
Quoting Euronews, the University of Texas is opening a Literary Contests and Contexts – The Taylor Swift Songbook course in 2022. The teacher in this class is Chaucer Elizabeth Scala.
This course focuses on Taylor’s music and seeks to understand his work such as its poetic form, style, and history. Apart from studying Swift’s works, this course studies the cultural context as an influence on Swift’s songs along with other explorations.
3. Stanford University
At Stanford University, Taylor Swift’s course is called All Too Well (10 Week Version). This class is held during the UK winter.
Quoting Billboard, the focus of learning in this class is an in-depth analysis of the song lyrics. Students will study this course at the start of their studies at Stanford University.
4. University of Arizona
On this campus, courses about Taylor Swift will study the psychological side of the 33 year old woman’s works, as quoted from the Billboard website. The name of the course is Psychology of Taylor Swift – Advanced Topics of Social Psychology.
Students will explore the themes of Swift’s songs and then examine them from a psychological perspective. For example, taken from Swift’s 6th album, which contains her experiences during conflicts with Kardashian and Kanye West.
5. University of Ghent
This campus in Belgium has just opened its newest course, namely “Literature: Taylor’s Version”. This course will discuss the ideas and themes of Swift’s pop songs.
According to Elly McCausland, assistant professor at the university, many students are enthusiastic about their new courses.
“I have never received so many emails from excited students asking if they could take the course,” said McCausland, quoted from Business Insider, Friday (22/9/2023).
