In his address to the Parliament of Canada, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi expressed gratitude to Canada for supporting his country as Ukraine faces Russian aggression since February 2022.
“Canada’s support for Ukraine with weapons and equipment has made it possible to save thousands of people,” he said, adding that “the sanctions imposed on Russia by Canada have encouraged other countries in the world to follow the same course.”
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau promised an additional $482 million in aid to Ukraine. He said the package will include about 50 armored vehicles and training for Ukrainian pilots.
To date, Canada has provided support worth $5.9 billion in military and other aid.
Mr. Trudeau promised that Canada will continue to stand “strongly and unequivocally” with Kiev.
The two leaders had also planned to sign an agreement to strengthen economic ties between their countries.
Canada is the second country in the world with the largest number of Ukrainian diaspora. About 1.4 million people of Ukrainian origin live there.
