JAKARTA – Former Manchester City player, Sergio Aguero, has high hopes that Pep Guardiola will take over as coach of the Argentine National Team (Timnas). Aguero hopes to see a reunion between Guardiola and Lionel Messi at international level.
The Argentine national team is currently commanded by Lionel Scaloni, who succeeded in bringing their squad to the 2022 World Cup title. Scaloni’s tenure in the Argentine national team is expected to end in December 2026. However, Aguero hopes that La Albiceleste can be coached by Guardiola, who is currently the coach Manchester City.
Sergio Aguero views Guardiola as one of the best coaches with a number of brilliant achievements with Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Man City. Apart from his widely recognized abilities, Aguero also wants to see a reunion between Guardiola and Messi in the Argentine national team.
Aguero expressed his views, “Of course, as an Argentinian, it would be great if he could be the coach of the Argentine national team, but yes, I don’t know. And of course at the moment I am a former player and am considering it as a fan of the national team, I think surely everyone will be happy, right?”
Although there is speculation regarding the future of coach Pep Guardiola, who has been linked with several national teams, Aguero stressed that the final decision rests with Guardiola himself. He stated, “But, I think we have to see, where he wants to go, what challenges he wants, what managers want is to take over a country and bring success, right?”
Currently, Pep Guardiola still has a contract with Manchester City until 2025. If he decides to take up the national team offer in the future, many countries will definitely be interested in using his services, considering his reputation as one of the best coaches in the world.
