JAKARTA – The manager of the Indonesian national basketball team, Jeremy Imanuel Santoso, is optimistic that his team can get good results at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China. This cannot be separated from France performing poorly at the 2023 FIBA World Cup.
The Indonesian Basketball Team is in Group D of the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games with South Korea, Japan and Qatar. All matches took place at the University Zijingang Campus Gumnasium.
Before appearing at the 2022 Asian Games, the Indonesian National Basketball Team underwent 3 trial matches against the Select Team at GBK Arena Senayan, Central Jakarta. The result was one win and the rest were defeats.
Jeremy Imanuel Santoso said that the Indonesian National Basketball Team was not looking to win in the trial match against the Select Team, because the aim was for the players to adapt to the 2023 Asian Games.
He explained that the players must be able to adapt, because each opponent in the group phase has a different playing character.
“For the scrimmage game, it’s not losing and winning that we’re looking for. This match is for adapting to the opponent, where we created the Select Team to play our opponent later in the group stage. For example, currently we are trying out how to face the Qatar National Team game. We’ll see “Children need adaptation, where suddenly they can do full court defense, suddenly they can’t. So indeed children need adaptation there,” explained Jeremy Imanuel Santoso in a PP Perbasi release, Tuesday (19/9/2023) .
Meanwhile, the Indonesian basketball team has to fight hard to get good results at the 2022 Asian Games. This is because a number of players who led Indonesia to win gold at the 2023 Vietnam SEA Games did not appear. They include Andakara Prastawa, Arki Dikania Wisnu, Brandon Jawato, Marques Bolden, Dame Diagne, Derrick Michael, Agassi Goantara and Abraham Damar Grahita.
The Perbasil National Team Agency is also maximizing the potential of young players to compete in the 2023 Asian Games. They are Anthony Erga, Pandu Wiguna, Muhammad Reza Guntara, Karl Patrick Gloria, Nickson Damara Gosal, Aldy Izzatur Rachman, Ali Bagir, Xavier Charles and Xavi Yonga.
On the other hand, Jeremy Imanuel Santoso said that the Indonesian National Basketball Team is targeted to show its best performance at the 2023 Asian Games. Even though it is not the top team, he believes that if France, which is the favorite at the 2023 FIBA World Cup, will actually appear disappointing so anything can happen.
“For the target at the Asian Games, of course our target must be to win, yes, but our realistic target is to give our best. I also can’t possibly say from now on, Indonesia will definitely lose, that’s impossible too. Anything can still happen, we’ll see.” “Last World Cup, even a world team like France could lose,” he concluded.
