KATHMANDU – A 22 year old man in Nepal escaped death after being stabbed in a fight. This man even survived, even though a 15 cm long knife blade was left in his body.
This man initially complained of mild and continuous pain in the lower left abdomen. Even though the man did not experience swelling or any symptoms that indicated digestive problems, such as nausea, diarrhea or constipation.
He had just suffered stitches on his right side after being stabbed in a fight. During the fight he was drunk and did not know he had been stabbed and underwent surgery to close the wound.
Despite pain above her left hip, she showed no signs of peritonitis. A condition where the lining of the abdominal cavity becomes inflamed, which can occur after the tissue is injured due to a puncture.
Then the doctors X-rayed the man’s stomach and discovered something unusual and spectacular. It turned out that there was a 15 centimeter knife blade floating in his stomach and wandering from one side to the other.
“Uniquely, none of the surrounding organs were seriously injured,” the doctor’s report published on September 2 in the Cureus journal was quoted by SINDOnews from the Live Science page, Tuesday (19/9/2023).
It is suspected that the knife blade was left behind when the man was taken to a local medical center to undergo closure of the stab wound. A health worker did not check to see if there was anything still stuck in his stomach and told him to leave.
After finding a knife on the man in the new report, his doctor performed surgery to remove the knife. The patient recovered completely and was discharged from the hospital five days later.
It is unclear why the knife was not found when the man underwent wound closure. The team of doctors explained that the most amazing part of this case was the way the knife flew through the stomach without damaging any organs.
