JAKARTA – General Chair of the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI), Agung Firman Sampurna, does not want to be careless in giving targets for his troops at the 2022 Asian Games. He instead emphasizes his hope that his athletes will receive equal appreciation.
Considering that badminton is one of the sports that Indonesia excels at in these multi-events. It was proven that at the 2018 Asian Games, the Indonesian Badminton Team was able to contribute two gold, two silver and four bronze.
This achievement is the second highest in badminton at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta. Now, it is believed that Indonesia will become a tough competitor to China.
Previously, China managed to get the most medals in badminton with a total of three gold, one silver and two bronze medals. The 2022 Asian Games will also be a moment for the Indonesian Badminton Team to displace China’s dominance.
Therefore, Agung hopes that his athletes will be guaranteed to receive balanced appreciation according to the contribution they have made. This is also considered to be a motivation for athletes.
“We will carefully convey the targets that we accept and are expected by the public. Our hope is that, as gold contributors, our athletes will receive appreciation that is commensurate with the contribution they have made,” explained Agung to the media in Jakarta, Tuesday ( 9/19/2023).
“We are proud to have the main support from the private sector, that the national training in Cipayung is contributed by the private sector, so not the government. We have support from the Ministry of Youth and Sports and one from BUMN,” he continued.
“We want our athletes who have fought to receive equal appreciation. Don’t let them fight hard with great contributions, but they come home without equal appreciation,” he said again.
As is known, the Indonesian contingent was officially confirmed on Tuesday (19/9/2023) in Jakarta. Including badminton, Indonesia sent 30 contingents to the 2022 Asian Games.
