MOSCOW – Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov criticized the peace plan proposed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Lavrov stated this was a strategic effort to defeat Russia and persuade Asian, African and Latin American countries to align with this idea.
“We are always told by Western countries that the only basis for negotiations is the Zelensky formula… This starts with… food security, energy security, physical security of nuclear facilities, humanitarian issues,” he said on Friday (15/9/2023 ).
Lavrov explained, “And then this formula moves towards the goal for which it was created, the strategic defeat of Russia to restore Ukraine’s borders in 1991, to put the Russian leadership under trial, to make Russia pay reparations.”
He explained this at a roundtable meeting on Ukrainian settlements in Moscow.
According to the top Russian diplomat, Western countries have been trying to get support from “the global majority,” including Asian, African and Latin American countries, to support this scheme.
They describe this approach as nothing but outright fraud.
Zelensky said in the fall of 2022 that Kiev had its own peace plan to end the ongoing conflict and at the same time signed a law banning peace talks with Russia.
Moscow has repeatedly stressed it is open to negotiations that respect the interests of the Russian people and recognize “new territorial realities”.
The Kremlin official also said Kiev did not appear interested in negotiating a solution to the current crisis.
