JAKARTA – The presence of social commerce such as TikTok Shop is considered by a number of parties to be able to erode the existence of MSMEs. However, General Chair of the Indonesian Digital Empowerment Community (IDIEC) M. Tesar Sandikapura said that this was not entirely true.
In a talk show entitled “The Impact of Social Commerce on MSMEs in Indonesia”, Friday (15/9), Tesar revealed that what traders need to remain competitive in this era is digital skills.
He said traders need to literate themselves to be able to be technologically literate. This is because now people are more active in the digital world in doing many things, from looking for entertainment, to communicating via social media.
“The problem of trade competition is basically the same since the time of the prophet Adam. There must be skills. It is necessary to be literate, especially for MSMEs who are baby boomers. Because of course millennials are more technology savvy. “So it would be wrong to fight without adequate equipment,” Tesar said.
Furthermore, Tesar also asked the Government to help encourage digital literacy in society. He did not even hesitate to encourage the Ministry of Communication and Information to continue to carry out active education.
“This is a collective homework to be done in a guerrilla manner because social commerce is innovation. When it is prohibited, it is just as challenging
natural. “But it must be regulated and detailed studies carried out so that the resulting policies are fair,” he concluded.
A similar thing was also conveyed by one of the sellers in social commerce, Andre Oktavianus, owner of the Kiminori Kids brand, which is successful in running a children’s clothing business.
According to him, strong determination and a willingness to continue learning are needed in order to be able to compete amidst the times. “The important thing is to have the intention to learn. Slowly learn step by step. Starting from learning how to go live to learning how to interact with an audience. You have to be strong too. I started live streaming for 3 hours every day until the sound ran out and no one was watching. “But keep trying until two months and there are more and more buyers,” he said.
For your information, Andre himself has joined social commerce TikTok Shop since 2022. His income has increased drastically compared to when he sold offline. He even said that his products had been sold throughout Indonesia with sales dominating on the islands of Java and Sumatra.
