RIYADH – Indonesian lifter, Rahmat Erwin Abdullah, has succeeded in making Indonesia proud on the world stage. Rahmat successfully broke the weightlifting world record at the 2023 IWF World Weightlifting Championships.
At the 2023 IWF World Weightlifting Championships which took place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Rahmat appeared in the men’s 81kg number and was in Group B. Even though he was not in Group A, this 22 year old lifter performed impressively by successfully breaking the world weightlifting record in men’s 81kg number for clean and jerk.
Rahmat had no problems at all when doing three clean and jerk lifts. From these three lifts, the 2023 SEA Games gold medalist recorded lifts of 190kg, 200kg, and rose to 209kg.
Rahmat broke the record previously set by Bulgarian lifter, Karlos Nasar, at the 2021 World Weightlifting Championships. At that time, Karlos Nasar had set a record of 208kg.
As for the snatch, the lifter from Makassar managed to lift 145 kg. Meanwhile, the total collection collected by Rahmat was 354 kg.
This collection temporarily made him far ahead in Group B in the men’s 81kg event. Even though he managed to break the record, he may not necessarily be able to get a medal.
The reason is, until now there are still athletes who are still competing, namely in Group A. Therefore, Rahmat still has to wait for the results of the athletes who will appear in Group A tonight.
However, the opportunity to win a medal is very open. Because, the achievements he managed to achieve were quite extraordinary, one of which was successfully breaking the world record for the clean & jerk.
