JAKARTA – Indonesian women’s singles, Putri Kusuma Wardani, will face a tough challenge in the first round of the China Open 2023 when she meets the Japanese player who is ranked second in the world, Akane Yamaguchi. KW Women’s Coach, Indra Widjaja, hopes that his team can perform optimally in this match.
China Open 2023, a Super 1000 level tournament, will be held in Changzhou, China, from September 5 to 10. Putri KW will face strong opponents from the start with a meeting against a Japanese player who is ranked second in the world.
Indra Widjaja admitted that the opportunity to meet top players is always there in the first round, but he hopes that Putri KW can perform as well as she showed in the match against He Bing Jiao (China) at the previous World Championship. Even though she lost the match, Putri KW managed to play well and showed a competitive game.
“My hope is for Putri KW to be as optimal as she showed against He Bing Jiao (China) at the World Championships yesterday,” said Indra Widjaja in a PBSI statement, Monday (4/9/2023).
Previously, Putri KW and Akane Yamaguchi had only met once, namely at the Indonesia Open 2023 which was won by Yamaguchi. Despite this, Putri KW still hopes to give her best performance in the match against this tough opponent.
