Rumors regarding Elkan Baggott’s future at Ipswich Town have resurfaced. There is news that Blackpool is serious about bringing in the naturalized Indonesian player on loan.
So far Baggott has played minimally while under the tutelage of Kieran McKenna. The player in the central defender position appears to only be trusted to appear in the 2023-2024 English League Cup (Carabao Cup).
Meanwhile, in the Championship division this season, Elkan still hasn’t had any playing minutes. Not surprisingly, Ipswich again decided to loan Elkan to another club.
There are three clubs interested in bringing in Elkan, namely Northampton Town, Bradford City and Scottish club, St. Johnstone. But none of them showed any serious interest.
Until finally Blackpool was reportedly serious about bringing in Elkan. According to the Football Insider 247 report, the club nicknamed The Seasiders is reportedly showing interest in borrowing the 20 year old player.
So far it is not clear about the details of Blackpool’s interest. There is no clear information regarding whether Blackpool has prepared a bid proposal or not.
Previously, Ipswich coach Kieran McKenna was confused about Elkan’s future in his team. The reason is, Elkan has shown improved performance, but still has difficulty competing with other central defenders.
“Of course, Elkan gives us good protection and options in that position at the moment. As I said, he is improving game by game,” said McKenna as reported by TWTD
“One area in any decision we will take regarding the future of young players is the current strength of the squad. But in the current situation, that is of course not the only criteria for whether Elkan remains with the squad this season. These are a number of different factors, ” said the former Manchester United assistant coach.
Elkan himself will return to action to defend the Indonesian U-23 National Team in the 2024 U-23 Asian Cup Qualification event. The Garuda Muda squad will face Taiwan U-23 and Turkmenistan on 9 and 12 September 2023.
