Kaesang Pangarep received public attention after his name was mentioned as a candidate for mayor of Depok. This issue became more widely circulated after the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) put up billboards expressing support for Joko Widodo’s son.
However, as reported by Detiknews, President Jokowi confirmed that Kaesang would not participate in the 2024 Depok Mayor Election.
Previously, Kaesang, who often posted memes on X (Twitter), was also known as a businessman, Beauties. A number of his businesses have even been widely reviewed by the public. CNBC Indonesia said that the majority of its business is in the food and beverage sector. Despite its undoubted popularity, it turns out that several Kaesang businesses have had to close within just a few years of its launch. One of them was even said to not sell well in the market. Coffee has become increasingly popular among people lately. But that is not any guarantee that a coffee business will be successful. Ternakopi which Kaesang developed together with his brother, Gibran Rakabuming, starting in 2019, for example. They managed to record 40 outlets spread across a number of regions in Indonesia, before they closed because there were not many customers due to the pandemic. “Yesterday, before the pandemic, we actually had almost 40 outlets, but after the pandemic, yes, they all disappeared. Why? They didn’t sell,” said Kaesang as quoted by CNN Indonesia.

Inspired by typical Indonesian drinks, the Goola business presents traditional drinks with more modern packaging. This business started out as Gibran’s before being handed over to Kaesang. Based on CNBC Indonesia’s monitoring, Goola is no longer running. Goola’s last upload on Instagram was made 3 years ago, November 7 2020 to be precise.
There are also fashion brands that are next on the list. The Javas is distinctive with a tadpole image on its t-shirt design. This brand managed to steal the attention of netizens when it was first released. Kaesang explained that the tadpole illustration was inspired by people’s behavior on social media. The word ‘Cebong’ is also a nickname for Jokowi’s big supporters in the 2014 elections. Looking at Sang Javas’ last Instagram upload which was made 3 years ago, namely on August 17 2020, it looks like this business is no longer running.
