Suara.com – General Chair of the NasDem Party, Surya Paloh, stated that he would respect the Democrats’ stance if they later choose to leave the Coalition for Change for Unity.
The Democrats feel betrayed, because Surya Paloh is said to have unilaterally appointed PKB General Chair Muhaimin Iskandar or Cak Imin as Anies Baswedan’s running mate.
“I respect (if the Democrats leave). What else do I have to say? You see, I think my model has the makings of a traitor or not. That’s all, but I respect that,” said Surya at the NasDem Tower, Central Newsdelivers.com on Thursday (31/8/2023) evening.
He said that the appointment of Cak Imin as Anies’ companion was not yet official. However, he said it could happen.

“Mr. Muhaimin Iskandar? Becoming vice presidential candidate? It’s possible in that direction. It could happen. But I don’t think it’s been formalized in such a way until this minute. So we’ll wait for developments in the next day or two,” he said.
Surya admitted that he did not understand the meaning of the Democrat’s statement which said that Cak Imin’s appointment was made without communication with the parties in the Coalition for Change for Unity.
“I don’t understand that, as an older brother to all of you (to journalists). You see your atmosphere, whether (I) avoid you or not, just psychologically,” he said.
“Especially for coalition friends, it’s not possible. But the problem is hopefully, we don’t know whether this is an official decision, whether this is perhaps a personal decision, represented, we don’t know yet. But whatever it is, I respect the decision,” he stressed.
Cak Imin becomes Anies’ vice presidential candidate

Previously, the Secretary General of the Democratic Party, Teuku Riefky Harsya, in a written statement, said that Surya appointed Cak Imin as Anies’ vice presidential candidate.
“On Tuesday evening, August 29 2023 at the NasDem Tower, the General Chair of the NasDem Party, Surya Paloh, suddenly appointed PKB General Chair Muhaimin Iskandar as Anies’ vice presidential candidate, without the knowledge of the Democratic Party and PKS,” said Teuku in his written statement, Thursday (31 /8/2023)
Teuku revealed that on that night, Anies was summoned by Surya Paloh to accept the decision. Then, on August 30, 2023, Anies asked Sudirman Said to convey it to Democrats and PKS without meeting them in person.
The Democratic Party confirmed this information to Anies. Anies couldn’t avoid it.
“He (Anies) confirmed that the news was true,” he explained.
