JAKARTA – The Lebanese Men’s National Basketball Team successfully made history at the Indonesia Arena. The gold ink streaks were created after defeating Ivory Coast in the first Group P match of the FIBA World Cup 2023 classification round with a score of 94-84, Thursday (31/8/2023).
Lebanon was also listed as the first Asian team to win at the Indonesia Arena during the 2023 FIBA World Cup which took place in Indonesia. In this match, it was not easy for Lebanon to win over Ivory Coast.
The reason, Ivory Coast was able to provide fierce resistance early in the first quarter. Luckily, Lebanon was able to lead 32-20.
In the second quarter, Lebanon continued to dominate the game. The brilliant actions of Amir Saoud and Karim Zeinoun made them maintain their lead at 40-29.
Entering the third quarter, Ivory Coast was able to recover and play more freely. As a result, they were slowly able to reduce the deficit and even equalized the score to 58-58 thanks to Jean Philippe Dally’s three-point shot.
After that, the two teams were again involved in chasing numbers. However, entering the final minutes, Omari Rasulala Spellman performed extraordinary and brought Lebanon back away with a 73-66 lead at the end of the third quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Lebanon again showed good game consistency. They maintained their lead through extraordinary actions by Spellman and Zeinoun to take the lead at 80-71.
However, Ivory Coast did not give up and continued to try to get closer again. However, in the end Lebanon succeeded in maintaining their lead until they closed the match with a score of 94-84.
In this match, Amir Saoud was the star for Lebanon. He scored 29 points, five rebounds and eight assists. Omari Rasullala Spellman was also no less impressive, collecting 25 points, six rebounds and five assists.
