JAKARTA – The U-17 South Korean national team will undergo trials against the U-17 Indonesian national team. This match is planned to take place at Patriot Candrabhaga Stadium, Bekasi, Wednesday (30/8/2023), at 19.00 WIB.
The friendly match was part of the preparations for the U-17 Indonesian national team before appearing at the 2023 U-17 World Cup. The championship will be held in Indonesia from 10 November to 2 December 2023.
The coach of Indonesia U-17, Bima Sakti, can take advantage of a trial match against South Korea U-17 to measure the strength of his team. On the other hand, the U-17 South Korean national team will use this match to adapt ahead of appearing in the 2023 U-17 World Cup.
Ahead of the trial match, the coach of the U-17 South Korean national team, Byun Seong-hwan, admitted that he had a close relationship with the coach of the Indonesian national team, Shin Tae-yong. The coach excitedly explained more about his closeness to STY.
Coach Byun turns out to be one of Shin Tae-yong’s former foster children at the club level. “I am quite close to him. When I arrived at the airport, Coach Shin called me and said that he would come to our practice and fight sites,” said Coach Byun at the ABC Field, Jakarta, Monday (28/8/2023).
“For your information, he was my head coach when I played in Seongnam. So, we are quite close,” he continued.
The South Korean U-17 squad itself trained at the ABC Field, Jakarta, Monday (28/8/2023) afternoon WIB. The training session was led directly by coach Byun Seong-hwan.
Meanwhile, from the Transfermarkt website, Shin Tae-yong is known to have handled Seongnam Ilhwa in 2008-2012. It was the club that brought Coach Shin together with his protege, Byun Seong-hwan. Now, his former protege will lead the U-17 South Korean national team against the U-17 Indonesian national team in a friendly match.
