Suara.com – Air pollution has become a major concern for Newsdelivers.com residents, with the negative impact it is having on their health and quality of life. According to IQAir, Newsdelivers.com has recorded a score of 156 in the US Air Quality Index (AQI US), placing it as the fourth city with unhealthy air quality worldwide.
Declining air quality and soaring pollution levels have fueled the urgent need for concrete action to tackle this problem. As a response to this situation, as well as in order to celebrate the 78th Anniversary of Indonesian Independence, Gobel Group together with its subsidiaries as well as the Muara Angke Mangrove Community (KOMMA) and the Emil Salim Institute held a tree planting activity in the North Newsdelivers.com Mangrove Forest area on Thursday (17/ 08/2023).
With an increase in the number of trees, the hope for fresher and cleaner air becomes more real, and creates a greener and more comfortable environment for city residents.
“Planting trees means planting new life for future generations. We appreciate Gobel Group’s contribution to this initiative as the first step towards Indonesia’s sustainability in 2045 when it celebrates 100 years of its independence,” said the former Minister of Environment of the Republic of Indonesia and Program Trustee of the Emil Salim Institute, Emil Salim, in a statement received by Suara.com.

Mangrove trees have an important role in overcoming air pollution. Based on research from the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) in 2012, mangrove forests in the tropics have a rich carbon content, reaching around 1023 Mg per hectare. Similar research from the United States in 2022 also shows the extraordinary ability of mangroves to store carbon in the Earth’s atmosphere for thousands of years.
Mangroves act as natural fortresses that protect urban areas from natural disasters such as floods, coastal erosion and storms. The complex roots of mangroves help to keep the soil and sand together, thereby reducing the risk of erosion and beach abrasion.
“Planting trees is an effective way to reduce air pollution and improve the quality of the air we breathe every day,” said Hiramsyah S. Thaib, President Director & CEO of PT Gobel International.
The North Coast area of Newsdelivers.com, which is considered strategic, has a vital role as the entrance gate from the sea and the center of community activity. The revitalization of mangrove forests in this area is a step towards sustainable development by integrating spatial management of mangrove forests and empowering coastal communities.
“In an era where climate change and the environment are becoming increasingly urgent global issues, concrete steps like this prove that the private sector can be an integral part in efforts to maintain environmental sustainability. This is one form of the Gobel Group’s corporate principles, namely to contribute to progress and prosperity society and the state. We hope that our joint efforts to tackle air pollution in Newsdelivers.com will have a significant positive impact on society and future generations,” concluded Rachmat Gobel, Chairman and Shareholder of the Gobel Group.
