JAKARTA – The Local Organizing Committee (Panpel) for the FIBA World Cup 2023 has prepared various scenarios to deal with the high interest from spectators who enter the Indonesia Arena during game breaks. This step was taken after seeing extraordinary enthusiasm during the opening ceremony of the FIBA World Cup 2023 on Friday (25/8/2023).
The FIBA World Cup 2023 opening ceremony which was held yesterday was a success. The enthusiasm of the crowd was so great that there were long queues as the simultaneous inflow and outflow of spectators when the first match turned into the second match. This happened because the opening ceremony managed to attract the attention of many spectators and held them before the ceremony started before the second match started at 20.30 WIB.
To anticipate this situation, the local committee has prepared various scenarios, especially for setting in and out of spectators. One such scenario involves segregating entry and exit routes and opening all exits. This was revealed by the Secretary General of Panpel, Junas Miradiarsyah.
“It’s the first day of the FIBA World Cup. We are very pleased with the enthusiasm of the audience who want to watch the opening ceremony and big matches, such as Canada against France. Especially the fans from Latvia were also a lot in the first match. Next, in matches involving teams flagships such as Spain, Canada, France and Latvia, we will arrange the movement of the audience to make it smoother,” said Junas in a release received by MNC Portal Indonesia, Saturday (26/8/2023).
Previously, to avoid obstacles to getting to the stadium, the panel had made arrangements so that cars were not allowed to enter the GBK area. Panpel also provides a shuttle service with an electric bus that can be used by 2023 FIBA World Cup spectators who have tickets. This bus will surround the Gelora Bung Karno area. There are six pick-up points for electric buses with routes that start and end at the Gelora Bus Stop (Gate 11).
The shuttle service will operate from 25 August to 3 September 2023. Operational hours on 25 August 2023 are from 14.15 WIB – 00.30 WIB. Then, from 26 August to 3 September 2023, operating hours are 14.45 WIB – 00.30 WIB. With an interval of 10-15 minutes at each pick-up point.
In addition, Polda Metro Jaya has also deployed 1,563 personnel to maintain security during the event until September 3 at the Indonesia Arena, Gelora Bung Karno (GBK), Senayan, Jakarta. This security involves the Regional Task Force (Satgasda), the Resort Task Force (Satgasres), and the TNI’s Under Operations Control (BKO).
“These personnel consist of 1,066 Satgasda personnel, 487 Satgasres personnel, and 10 TNI BKO personnel. Security starts from the team’s arrival, the route to be traversed, venues for matches, lodging, to a series of other events,” said the Regional Supervision Inspector (Irwasda) Polda Metro Jaya, Kombes Pol Nurkolis, in his official statement in Jakarta.
The match will take place in two time sessions, with the first match starting at 16.45 WIB, while the second match will take place at 20.30 WIB. Today, Saturday (26/8/2023), two matches from Group G will take place, namely the Iran National Basketball Team against Brazil, and Spain against Ivory Coast.
