JAKARTA – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) canceled attending the opening ceremony of the FIBA World Cup 2023 at the Indonesia Arena, Friday (25/8/2023) at 19.15 WIB. This was revealed by the Head of the FIBA World Cup 2023 Local Committee (LOC), Budisatrio Djiwandono.
He said Jokowi was unable to attend because there were activities in North Sumatra. “It seems that he was not present because based on the information we received, Mr. President, there are new activities for a series of events from Africa, but now he is back in North Sumatra, so he will not be present at today’s opening ceremony,” said Budisatrio.
Nevertheless, Budisatrio said that several ministers were confirmed to be present at the opening ceremony of the FIBA World Cup 2023. Including the Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora), Dito Ariotedjo, and the Minister of BUMN, Erick Thohir, who is also a member of the FIBA Honorary Council.
“From the information I received, there are several cabinet ministers who will come, I think the Menpora will definitely be present, earlier the information was that the Minister of BUMN, Mr. Erick Thohir, will also attend. He is also a central board member of FIBA,” said Budisatrio.
Before the opening ceremony begins, the opening match of the FIBA World Cup 2023 Jakarta will bring together two teams from Group G, namely Latvia and Lebanon. The two teams competed at 16.15 WIB at the Indonesia Arena.
After the opening ceremony, a big match will be held namely France against Canada. The two NBA star-studded teams performed at 20.30 at the Indonesia Arena.
