LONDON – Mykhaylo Mudryk, a young winger from Ukraine, is still in the adjustment stage at Chelsea. Nonetheless, Mauricio Pochettino is confident in the 22-year-old’s qualities and sees him as a potential future.
Chelsea decided to spend 70 million euros or around IDR 1.1 trillion in January 2023 to recruit Mykhaylo Mudryk from Shakhtar Donetsk. However, until now, his performance has not been fully satisfactory with the Blues.
Mykhaylo Mudryk’s lack of consistency has drawn some criticism. Some felt that the transfer fee of 70 million euros had not been reflected in his limited contribution.
However, Mauricio Pochettino’s view is different. He sees Mykhaylo Mudryk as a talented young player who needs time to adapt. Pochettino stressed the importance of building trust in this young player and integrating him into the team.
“He is a young player full of potential. We need to trust him and he needs to feel part of the team with us, like other young players,” said Mauricio Pochettino as quoted from Tribal Football on Thursday (24/8/2023).
The Argentine coach also asked Chelsea fans to be patient and give Mykhaylo Mudryk the opportunity to develop his talent. Despite criticism that may arise, Pochettino believes Mykhaylo Mudryk has special talent and quality.
“This process will take time, but I believe that he has great talent and quality. It will only take time before he can fully adapt to the team,” he explained.
Until now, Mykhaylo Mudryk has only appeared in two matches for Chelsea in the 2023/2024 Premier League. In a total of 53 minutes played, he was involved in a 1-1 draw against Liverpool and a 1-3 loss to West Ham United.
