RIYADH – A video showing the famous clock tower in Saudi Arabia, facing the Kaaba, being struck by lightning has gone viral in cyberspace. It happened when a storm was raging in Makkah.
Photographer Youssef Bajash captured the moment a thick line hit the world’s largest clock tower, lighting up the entire city.
“As soon as the clouds started to form in Makkah, I went somewhere to catch the flash of lightning,” said Bajajash as quoted from Al Arabiya, Thursday (24/8/2023).
“I managed to capture the moment when lightning hit the Makkah Clock Tower, resulting in a very beautiful view,” he added.
The city of Makkah was hit by heavy rains and thunderstorms. Saudi Arabia’s National Meteorological Center declared an alert level in red, which is the highest level.
Al Arabiya also shared a video taken by witness cleaners in the courtyard of the Kaaba who were struggling to hold on as strong winds blew them away.
Other videos shared online also show flooded streets and cars around different neighborhoods in Makkah.
As dire as the situation may seem, there are beautiful moments that go viral amidst the chaos. Namely, when the Grand Mosque was hit by heavy rain and thunderstorms, the Umrah pilgrims continued to pray, so that a spiritual scene was created when they prayed under the pouring rain.
