JAKARTA – The BRICS is a world economic group that has recently received increasing attention. Five in total, its members consist of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
BRICS is sticking out with many attention-grabbing programs. A number of world observers have even called it a threat to Western and other economic groups. In 2023, they will hold a Summit in South Africa.
List of Presidents of BRICS Member States from Oldest to Youngest
In the row of its main members, BRICS has five member countries. The following is the order of the presidents of the BRICS member countries from oldest to youngest.
1. Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (Brazil)
Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, also known as Lula da Silva, is the 39th President of Brazil who is currently in office. He was born on October 27, 1945 and is about 77 years old.
Quoting DW, Lula won his third term as president after defeating Jair Bolsonaro in the October 2022 election. He was then sworn in as President of Brazil in early January 2023.
While taking the oath of office, Lula promised to defend and abide by the constitution. Not only that, he will also rebuild Brazil from the “downturn” left by the previous government.
At the 2023 BRICS Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa, Lula was present with other heads of state. He said he wanted to discuss a number of issues with Russian President Vladimir Putin who was not on the agenda.
2. Vladimir Putin (Russia)
Vladimir Putin is the current President of Russia. After his decision to invade Ukraine since February 2022, he is about to be arrested by the International Criminal Court (ICC) on charges of committing war crimes in Ukraine.
South Africa is a member of the ICC, which means it has an obligation to carry out ICC orders.
Threatened with arrest, Putin was absent from the 2023 BRICS Summit in South Africa. However, Putin still attended virtually and gave his speech.
