JAKARTA – Sujud turns out to have extraordinary health benefits. Not just a claim, this has been scientifically proven by researchers from Harvard University.
Recently, Harvard University posted on its official website that prostration is the best posture to fight back pain without having to undergo surgery or medical procedures.
Quoted from The Islamic Information, Wednesday (23/8/2023), back pain is one of the most common problems in the medical world, experienced by more than 1 million people worldwide each year.
Many patients opt for medical treatment and some even undergo surgery to remove them. However, apart from being expensive, there is still a risk of long-term side effects.
According to information on the Harvard Health page, there is a simple way to get rid of back pain. In a recent post on Twitter, Harvard Health claims the prostration posture is the best remedy for back pain.
Prostration is one of the 17 pillars of prayer. Another pillar of prayer is intention, takbiratul ikhram, standing when able, reading Al Fatihah, bowing, tuma’ninah, iktidal, also with tuma’ninah, sitting between two prostrations, also done with tuma’ninah, reading tashahud, sitting, reading blessings upon the prophet, reciting salam, and rutut or orderly.
Sujud is performed by kneeling and bowing until the forehead, nose, both hands, both knees, and toes touch the ground.
Apart from being beneficial for back pain, prostration has also been shown to increase oxygen delivery to tissues and blood circulation, which reduces inflammation and speeds healing. Another benefit of prostration is being able to reduce anxiety, depression, and stress.
