RAYONG – The 2023 AFF U-23 Cup semifinal schedule is in this article. The U-23 Indonesian national team will clash with Thailand to fight for a ticket to the final of this tournament.
The U-23 Indonesian National Team has made it to the semifinals of the 2023 U-23 AFF Cup and will meet the U-23 Thailand National Team. Despite finishing under Malaysia in the group phase, Indonesia won a ticket to the top four as the best runner-up.
In the group phase, Indonesia won 3 points from one win and one defeat, outperforming Cambodia and the Philippines in the race for the best runner-up ticket.
Even though Cambodia collected 4 points in the group phase, the difference in the number of matches favored Indonesia. Cambodia is in Group A with four teams, while Indonesia and the Philippines are in Groups B and C with three teams.
In the best runners-up competition, Cambodia is only counted based on two matches, making the result against the fourth team (Brunei) have no effect.
This situation benefits Indonesia. Cambodia only won 1 point if the game against Brunei is not taken into account. Thus, Indonesia got a ticket to the semifinals, along with the three group winners: Malaysia, Vietnam and Thailand.
The semifinals of the 2023 AFF U-23 Cup are still underway in Rayong, Thailand, including the match for third place and the final. All matches in the knockout stages are played over one leg.
