JAKARTA – Love scam has become a new mode of fraud that has recently been used by cyber criminals. Love scam works by deceiving its victims in the name of love.
On social media Twitter, love scame is widely discussed, one of which is the account @PartaiSocmed. In a thread, the account explains that love scams are now a trend among inmates.
When carrying out their actions, these convicts use kpop avatars or handsome male figures to lure their victims. Here they play good people looking for love.
It is said that this action was carried out by convicts from behind bars. To approach the victim, they also rely on the face replacement application reface app.
“In order to convince potential victims, they made fake ID cards with the same face as the face used in the face replacement application,” quoted from the post @PartaiSocmed, Tuesday (22/8/2023).
“After the victim believes and is overwhelmed by the convict’s seduction, the next step is to invite VCS. And this is where the disaster begins,” he continued.
When the victim is willing to make a video call sex, the perpetrator will secretly take screenshots of the naked victim’s video recording screen. From here, the perpetrator began to threaten to spread the victim’s disgrace.
Victims are asked to provide a certain amount of money so that photos or videos of their disgrace are not shared. No kidding, it was stated that the results of this extortion were very large in nominal terms, even reaching billions of rupiah.
“For just one victim they can get from hundreds of thousands to billions of rupiah!” said @PartaiSocmed.
It is said that these cyber criminals will never be enough to blackmail victims to the lowest point. They are also known to have no compassion for bankrupting their victims.
In this case, the most important thing to do is never share any content that is private to other people, especially those you just met. If you are already a victim, you are advised not to follow the will of the perpetrator.
