At least 10 people were killed on Thursday (17/8) in Malaysia when a jet plane crashed on a highway north of the capital Kuala Lumpur.
Inspector General of the Malaysian Police Razarudin Husain briefed reporters on the casualties and the emergency response.
Regarding the victims, Husain said, based on information there were eight victims on the plane, one motorcycle driver and one other person in the car. He said his party was still investigating whether there were other passengers in the car.
Husain said authorities would complete search and rescue efforts before investigators searched the plane’s black box to determine the cause of the crash.
The Jetvalet plane departed from Langkawi International Airport, an island off the northeast coast of Malaysia and was flying to Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Kuala Lumpur.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia said the plane made first contact with the Subang Air Traffic Control Tower at 2:27 p.m. and permission to land was granted at 2:28 p.m. local time.
Shortly after, aviation authorities said control towers saw smoke coming from the crash site at 2:51 p.m. The plane did not transmit an emergency situation signal. (uh/ab)
