The government will allocate IDR 40.6 trillion in the 2024 State Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBN) for the construction of a new capital city and presidential offices as well as dozens of apartment blocks for workers to be completed next year, ministers said on Wednesday (16/8).
In 2019, the government announced it would build a new capital city, Nusantara, in East Kalimantan, replacing the overcrowded and sinking Jakarta. The new city is estimated to cost a total of $32 billion (at current exchange rates) when completed in 2045.
The government has invested IDR 32 trillion to build basic infrastructure, including dams and toll roads.
Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani Indrawati said Rp. 35 trillion rupiah from the 2024 State Budget would be given to the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing, which would build infrastructure and housing for civil servants.
“Supporting infrastructure will be completed in 2024,” Sri Mulyani said at a press conference.
The government will start building housing for around 16,000 civil servants, military and police in September, who will be moving next year, said Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljono.
The government plans to complete 12 of the 47 apartments by July next year, a month before the government holds the first independence day flag ceremony at IKN, Basuki said.
“The four coordinating ministry offices, the presidential palace will be completed next year, while the fields for next year’s flag ceremony will be completed in July,” he said. (ah/ft)
