Ukrainian officials said today that Russia damaged grain infrastructure at a port in southern Ukraine’s Odesa region in a drone strike overnight.
Andriy Yermak, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s chief of staff, said in a post on the Telegram social network that the attack targeted the Rhine port on the Danube River.
Footage from Romania, the other country across the river, showed huge explosions, while gunfire could be heard in the background.
Ukrainian authorities said the attacks were aimed at hitting two ports that house large grain warehouses.
The port on the Danube River is one of the key export points for Ukrainian wheat, where it is loaded onto barges and then shipped to the port of Constanta on the Black Sea.
Odesa regional governor Oleh Kiper said there were no reports of casualties as a result of the attack and that Ukraine’s air force had shot down 11 Russian drones over Odesa.
Russia’s Defense Ministry said on Wednesday that its air defense systems shot down three Ukrainian drones over the Kaluga region.
According to the ministry, there were no injuries or damage to the infrastructure from the attack that was carried out early in the morning.
