JAKARTA – Iran’s defense industry has experienced significant development in recent decades, despite facing various international restrictions on military technology and trade.
In the midst of limitations, Iran continues to try to develop its national defense capability independently, one of which is by producing its own tanks.
Iranian-made tanks continue to be developed as part of the development of its defense industry.
Here are some well-known Iranian-made tanks:
1. Zulfiqar

The Zulfiqar tank is one of the main tanks made in Iran. This tank is available in two variants, namely Zulfiqar-1 and Zulfiqar-2.
The Zulfiqar-1 has features such as a 125mm gun, fire control system and protection armour. While Zulfiqar-2 has several improvements, including a remote sensing system and better protection devices.
2. Sabalan

The Sabalan tank is also a product of tanks made in Iran. This tank weighs about 40 tons and is equipped with a 105mm main gun.
Sabalan is equipped with modern communication systems and enhanced protection devices.
3. Tosan

Tosan is a light tank developed by Iran. This tank weighs about 15 tons and is equipped with a 90mm main gun.
Tosan is designed with good mobility for operation in difficult terrain.
4. Karrar

The Karrar tank is one of the newest tanks made in Iran. This tank is claimed to have similar capabilities to modern tanks used by other countries.
The Karrar has a 125mm main gun, an automatic fire system, modern protection systems and long range attack capability.
It should be noted that the development of Iranian tanks may still continue. The specifications and capabilities of Iranian tanks may change with time and technological developments.
