BANDUNG – Robby Darwis, Persib legend, firmly stated that the Indonesian national team participating in the 2023 SEA Games was the best team in the Southeast Asian Games.
Robby Darwis proved his statement when the Indonesian national team won a gold medal after defeating Thailand in the final match of the 2023 SEA Games at the Olympic Stadium, Phnom Penh, Cambodia, on 16 May 2023.
The Indonesian national team came out victorious with a score of 5-2. Five goals for Indonesia were scored by Ramadhan Sananta (21 and 45+5 minutes), Irfan Jauhari (91 minutes), Fajar Fathur Rahman (107 minutes), and Beckham Putra (120 minutes).
Meanwhile, two goals from Thailand were scored by Anan Yodsangwal (65 minutes) and Yotsakorn Burapha (90 + 7 minutes).
“In my opinion, this is the best because at the SEA Games sporting event, the best final results have been achieved. They have succeeded in meeting the expectations of the community, and this is the result,” said Robby Darwis on Thursday (18/5/2023).
Robby Darwis was happy with the achievement of the Indonesian national team. Moreover, the previous SEA Games gold medal was won by Indonesia in 1987 and 1991, where Robby Darwis also contributed as a team member.
“Finally, after 32 years, we became champions. That’s what happened when we faced Thailand,” he added.
As an experienced Indonesian national team defender, this legend admits that Thailand is Indonesia’s nemesis. Thailand has won the title 16 times since the SEA Games were first held in 1959.
“However, thank God, now we can give our best. I really support the players not to be affected by hard play and stay focused on the competition so they can win the gold medal we have been waiting for for 32 years,” said Robby Darwis.
When asked about the players who stood out during the 2023 SEA Games, Robby Darwis mentioned two names, namely Alfeandra Dewangga and Marselino Ferdinand.
“In my opinion, Alfeandra Dewangga and Marselino Ferdinand are the standout players in the team. We hope they will continue to develop in the future,” he concluded.
