JAKARTA – Indonesian billiards pair, Dhendy Khristanto/Gebby Adi Wibawa, showed their brilliant performance in the 2023 Cambodia SEA Games by winning a bronze medal. However, Dhendy/Gebby admitted that they were quite surprised by the results they had achieved.

This success was achieved by Dhendy/Gebby after defeating the Vietnamese pair, Nguyen Pham Hoai/Kieu Thien Khoi, in the quarter-finals with a score of 3-0. Unfortunately, Dhendy/Gebby’s journey was stopped in the semifinals after losing to the Malaysian pair, Lim Kok Leong/Moh Keen Hoo, with a score of 1-3.

Even though they only won a bronze medal, Dhendy/Gebby managed to make a brilliant achievement. The pair became the first medalists for Indonesia in the Double Snooker SEA Games in the last 23 years.

Dhendy revealed that he never thought he could bring home a medal from Double Snooker. Because, according to him, Indonesia is still behind compared to several other countries in ASEAN in terms of playing billiards.

“I never imagined that we could win a medal. We just try to look our best,” said Dhendy in the Perindo Party Real Action Podcast, on Thursday (25/5/2023).

Gebby also expressed a similar opinion. According to him, the quality of Indonesian billiards is actually not inferior to other countries, but the lack of opportunities to compete is an obstacle.

“Our quality is not much different from other countries, but we lost in terms of competition. It’s very rare to have the opportunity to compete in our number, only once or twice,” said Gebby.

With their success in winning a bronze medal at the 2023 SEA Games, Dhendy/Gebby provide inspiration for Indonesian pool athletes and bring hope to increase competition in this country.
