KUALA LUMPUR – Christian Adinata made a surprise appearance in the semifinals of the Malaysia Masters 2023. Indonesia’s mainstay in men’s singles has qualified for the top 4 of the BWF World Tour Super 500 level tournament for the first time.

Christian eliminated India’s representative Kidambi Srikanth through a battle of three games 16-21, 21-16 and 21-11 in the quarter-finals at the Axiata Arena, Kuala Lumpur, Friday (26/5/2023) morning WIB.

The world number 57 badminton player will face another Indian envoy, Prannoy HS, in the semifinals. The world number nine eliminated Japanese mainstay Kenta Nishimoto in three games 25-23, 18-21, 21-13 in the quarter-finals.

So far, Christian’s best achievement in the BWF World Tour Super 500 is qualifying for the round of 32 at the Indonesia Masters 2023, last January.

This result is somewhat impressive because Christian started his steps in the main round of the 2023 Malaysia Masters through qualification. However, the athlete from Pati is still not satisfied with his achievements and is determined to go further.

“This is a good enough result for me, but there is still a match tomorrow, I want to go even further,” said Christian in a PBSI press statement, Friday (26/5/2023).

“I don’t want to be complacent with this. Thank you to everyone who continues to support me.”

The 21-year-old player said that there was a role for coach Irwansyah and his seniors behind the success of making it to the semifinals of the Malaysia Masters 2023. This is because before the match they had discussions to give support to the junior.
