JAKARTA – Indonesia will have world soccer star Lionel Messi on FIFA Matchday 2023. Argentine media reports that La Pulga -nicknamed Messi – is ready to face Indonesia, as well as Australia, on their tour in Asia, next June.
Indonesia will host the 2022 World Cup champions in a friendly match at the Bung Karno Main Stadium, Jakarta, June 19, 2023. Meanwhile, the Australia vs Argentina duel will be in China, on June 15.
Argentine media El Destape revealed that Messi has decided to join the Asian tour and report to his club Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) to join Team Tango.
Of course this is good news for football fans in Indonesia to watch the superstar perform against the Garuda team.
“Lionel Messi has made a joint decision with the Argentina national team for the matches against Australia and Indonesia in two FIFA Match Day matches,” wrote El Destape, Friday (26/5/2023).
“The Qatar 2022 World Cup winner captain has informed the AFA (Argentinian Football Federation) and coach Lionel Scaloni what he will do for FIFA Match Day June 2023,” he added.
The Argentina national team will face Australia in Shanghai, China and then against Indonesia. El Destape further stated that the PSG striker had informed him that he would be present at the two matches even though there were no points at stake in the two matches.
El Destape also revealed that the Argentina national team will appear against Australia and Indonesia with full strength. Team Tango only lost Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez who is still injured.
Previously, PSSI Chairman Erick Thohir could not confirm whether Lionel Messi would be present against Indonesia. However, the man who also serves as Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) is sure that Argentina will field the best team when facing Shin Tae Yong’s squad.
