PARIS – Olympique Lyon legend Juninho Pernambucano is not surprised to see Lionel Messi criticized by fans after Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) were knocked out of the Champions League. According to him, PSG fans are disappointed with Messi’s performance.
PSG were eliminated from the Champions League after losing 0-3 on aggregate to Bayern Munich. In the first leg, Lionel Messi cs was defeated by a score of 0-1. Meanwhile, in the second leg which took place on March 9 2023, PSG again had to admit the strength of the German giants with a score of 0-2.
Since then. Lionel Messi continues to receive criticism. The climax, in the 28th match of the 2022/2023 French League against Rennes, PSG and Messi again faced pressure to always give the best performance for their fans.
“Even though he (Lionel Messi) is Messi, he is still a human being. I would not be surprised at all if he received criticism,” Juninho Pernambucano told Marca, Sunday (19/3/2023).
Juninho emphasized that as professional soccer athletes, players must do their job as well as possible and give their best performance in order to win every game. Nonetheless, he also admitted that PSG players pay attention to the opinions of fans who demand the best performance from their favorite team.
PSG fans were deeply disappointed by their team’s defeat in the last 16 of the Champions League this season. PSG had to admit Bayern Munich’s superiority with an aggregate of 3-0, and this was the cause of the disappointment of PSG fans towards Lionel Messi.
